No New AI Datacenters In Canada

On September 17, a supporter of Last Generation Canada disrupted ALL IN, Canada's largest AI event, taking the stage in Montréal to deliver a speech condemning the industry's ties to the climate crisis. This action follows a string of recent escalations from the anti-AI movement, including the All Out demonstration and broken windows at Mila - Québec AI Institute.

Starting at around 4:30 p.m. ET, Nico, a supporter of Last Generation Canada, took the stage at ALL IN. Nico was detained by police for 5 hours, during which they faced intimidation and mistreatment.

It's clear: billionaires, tech CEOs, and fossil fuel companies are waging war on humanity. The climate crisis is decimating lives across the world and here in Canada. Meanwhile, in Montréal, the tech bros gathered at ALL IN to celebrate AI and its promise of profit while Canada burns. Data centres and the AI industry are accelerating energy demand at the exact moment the world needs to be cutting emissions, and governments and Big Tech have known the consequences of this trajectory for years. Despite this, Canada continues to bankroll destructive industries. Canadians remain unprotected in the face of climate disaster, and the government must stop gambling with our lives.
We are calling on the Canadian government to halt approval of new AI datacenters in Canada, given their accelerating energy and water demands at a moment when emissions must fall, not rise.

The climate crisis is the biggest threat humanity has ever faced. The social contract is broken. It's time to disrupt business as usual to ensure our protection.
